ACCPA Announces First Cohort of SAGFA Fellows to Champion Green Finance Leadership Across Africa

Written By: Sino-Africa Insider

The Africa–China Centre for Policy and Advisory (ACCPA) has officially launched the inaugural cohort of its Sino-Africa Green Finance Alliance (SAGFA) Fellowship, marking a defining moment for the continent’s push toward climate-smart development and green economic reform.

Backed by the African Climate Foundation (ACF), the six-week fellowship brings together emerging African leaders from diverse sectors – including public institutions, academia, civil society, and continental development agencies – to build world-class expertise in climate finance, sustainability policy, and Africa-China cooperation.

The fellowship arrives at a crucial time: Africa needs over $250 billion in annual climate finance by 2030, yet receives less than 12% of global climate funds. China, now the world’s largest investor in renewables, has pledged deeper support for Africa’s energy transition and green economy under the FOCAC Green Development Initiative – including 30 renewable-energy projects across the continent.

Through expert-led sessions, peer learning, and policy labs, SAGFA fellows will develop capacity to unlock climate finance, structure sustainable investment pipelines, and strengthen South-South knowledge exchange, advancing Africa’s voice in global climate governance.

The program reflects a strategic evolution in Africa-China relations moving beyond infrastructure to co-creation of knowledge, finance, and green innovations that align with Agenda 2063 and global sustainability goals.

With the launch of this first cohort, ACCPA signals the rise of a new generation of climate-finance champions poised to shape Africa’s green future and the policies, partnerships, and institutions that will sustain it.
