Chery Launches Five New Models in Egypt, Accelerating EV and Hybrid Expansion

Chinese automaker Chery Auto unveiled five new vehicles at a high-profile event held at Abdeen Palace Museum, marking its next phase of expansion in Egypt. The new models include the Arrizo 5 FL, Arrizo 8, Tiggo 7 Pro Max, Tiggo 8 Pro Max, and the Tiggo 9 PHEV (plug‑in hybrid), highlighting Chery’s commitment to hybrid and intelligent vehicle technologies in the African market.

At the launch, Shen Xiantian, General Manager of Chery Egypt, shared the company’s vision for a new era of automotive innovation. He said Chery will fast-track its shift toward hybrid power trains and smart technologies, backed by an expanding global network that includes eight R&D centers, ten manufacturing plants, and parts distribution hubs. The company also plans to deepen local partnerships to better serve regional consumers and dealers.

The announcement comes amid Chery’s broader success story: in 2024, the company sold over 580,000 new energy vehicles worldwide, a remarkable 232.7% year-on‑year increase, positioning it among China’s fastest-growing auto exporters.

Chery’s expansion in Egypt is part of a longer-term strategy cemented over decades. The company entered the Egyptian market in 2005 and has since become one of the top-selling Chinese car brands in the country. With two manufacturing plants and an extensive local supply chain, Chery produced 137,000 locally assembled units in 2024, with more than 90% localization, demonstrating strong alignment with Egypt’s economic vision and industrial ambitions.

The newly launched models span a broad customer base, from compact sedans like the Arrizo series to family SUVs and premium hybrids like the Tiggo 9 PHEV. These additions complement existing lineup and support Chery’s goal of matching global automotive trends while maintaining affordability and innovation for Middle East and African markets.

This launch further underscores China’s broader intention to make Egypt a regional hub for automobile manufacturing and innovation. Chery’s locally tailored models and growing dealership network, boasting over 66 sales outlets and 26 after-sales centers reflect its deep integration into Egypt’s Vision 2030 roadmap and automotive ecosystem.

The Egyptian launch also aligns with Chery’s Pan-African strategy. Facing trade pressures in Europe and the U.S., Chinese automakers including Chery are turning toward Africa as a vital growth market, particularly for hybrid and electric vehicles. South Africa has emerged as a strategic hub for Chery’s expansion in the continent, and Egypt now serves as the gateway to North Africa and the wider region.
