China-Ethiopia Industry Matchmaking Event in Addis Ababa Strengthens BRICS Industrial Ties

The 2025 China-Ethiopia Industry Matchmaking Event was held today in Ethiopia’s capital, Addis Ababa, aiming to deepen industrial collaboration and foster policy alignment between China, Ethiopia, and other BRICS member states.

The event was co-organized by the BRICS Partnership on New Industrial Revolution Innovation Center (BRICS PartNIR Innovation Center), the Chinese government, and Ethiopian industry bodies. During the ceremony, a cooperation agreement was signed between the BRICS PartNIR Innovation Center and China Civil Engineering Construction Corporation (CCECC) to establish a platform that helps Chinese and other BRICS enterprises enter Ethiopia’s market and tap into its industrial potential.

Zhuang Rongliang, vice mayor of Xiamen City and director-general of the BRICS PartNIR Innovation Center, highlighted the growing economic ties between Xiamen and Addis Ababa. He pointed to the BRICS freight air route linking Xiamen, Addis Ababa, and São Paulo, which has completed 598 flights, moving around USD 750 million in trade.

From the Ethiopian side, Tarekegn Bululta, State Minister of Industry, emphasized the event’s role as a strategic bridge for Chinese firms to align with Ethiopia’s industrial goals, reduce risks, and access top local talent. He invited further investment into priority sectors across Ethiopia.

Liu Xiaoguang, Minister-Counselor at the Chinese Embassy in Ethiopia, affirmed that China and Ethiopia’s cooperation spans agriculture, manufacturing, mining, digital transformation, green development, and capacity building. Liu noted that the matchmaking event is key to strengthening synergy, knowledge exchange, and win-win development paths.
