The Chinese Embassy in Ghana held a grand reception in Accra on September 26 to celebrate two momentous occasions: the 76th anniversary of the founding of the People’s Republic of China, and 65 years of diplomatic relations between China and Ghana.
Chinese Ambassador to Ghana Tong Defa delivered remarks highlighting the growth of bilateral trust and praised Ghana’s consistent support on key issues such as the One-China principle. He also emphasised that the elevation of Ghana–China relations to a strategic partnership in 2024 has paved new avenues for deeper cooperation.
Addressing the gathering, Ghanaian Vice President Jane Naana Opoku-Agyemang reaffirmed Ghana’s commitment to deepening collaboration with China in priority areas including energy, renewable power, digital tech, and trade facilitation under the AfCFTA framework. She lauded China’s support in health, infrastructure, and cultural exchange, calling for a relationship grounded in mutual benefit and respect.

At the reception, performances, cultural displays, and diplomatic networking set the tone for a celebration of both heritage and the forward trajectory of China–Ghana ties. Many in attendance included government dignitaries, members of the Chinese community, and civil society representatives.
This joint anniversary marks more than ceremonial occasions, it reflects the maturity of a partnership that continues to evolve across diplomacy, infrastructure, education, trade, and cultural exchange. The reception reinforces a shared understanding that the foundation of China–Ghana relations rests not just on agreements, but on people, trust, and sustained collaboration.
