Chinese Firm Starts 7-Km Road Project to Connect Neglected Abuja Settlements

China Civil Engineering Construction Corporation (CCECC) has officially kicked off a vital rural road construction project in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), aimed at improving accessibility for underserved communities around Abuja. The project was flagged off by FCT Minister Nyesom Wike at a ceremony on Monday.

The new 7-kilometer road will link Tunga Madaki Settlement and eight neighboring communities, many of which have long been neglected in infrastructure planning. According to Minister Wike, the road is part of Nigeria’s “Renewed Hope Agenda” and is intended to integrate these areas into the capital’s development master plan.

The project scope is not limited to just paving the access road. It includes construction of a four-span bridge and other supporting civil works. Wike emphasized that the road will also serve as a critical bypass to the second runway of the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, a portion of land which was donated by local communities.

The construction is expected to be completed by June 2026, with jobs being created for local youth and community involvement stressed as essential. Minister Wike called on community leaders and residents to cooperate with CCECC to ensure smooth and timely execution of the work.
