Chinese Medical Team Offers Free Consultations to Chinese Nationals in Maputo

In a gesture of medical outreach and diplomacy, the 25th Chinese medical team, joined by delegations from the 23rd and 24th teams as well as experts from the West China Hospital of Sichuan University, conducted a free medical consultation event in Maputo for Chinese citizens and overseas Chinese residing in the country.

Specialists across fields including orthopedics, cardiac surgery, spinal surgery, internal medicine, pain management, acupuncture, obstetrics and gynecology provided diagnoses, advice, and prescriptions to participants, with more than 200 people served in just over two hours.

Liao Banghua, head of the 23rd Chinese medical team in Mozambique, reflected on the emotional resonance of the event: seeing familiar faces of compatriots abroad felt like returning to past service. He described the medical team as a bridge for China–Mozambique health cooperation and a critical source of support for Chinese nationals overseas.

Zhou Jing, from the 25th team, spoke to the spirit of continuity and responsibility: “As we prepare to leave soon, our greatest wish is to pass down this responsibility so that the warmth of the Chinese medical team continues in Mozambique.”

Patients expressed gratitude for care and clarity. One Chinese resident, Gu Zhengwei, shared that doctors explained his condition clearly, provided medication instructions, and scheduled follow-up visits.

This outreach is part of a broader tradition: over the years, Chinese medical teams have repeatedly extended medical diplomacy services in Mozambique, contributing to both local health outcomes and strengthening people-to-people ties.
