Chinese University Premieres Youth Documentaries in Uganda Boosting Cultural Ties

Two new documentaries produced by China’s Zhejiang University, “Generation Z’s China‑Africa Stories” and “Along the Silk Road” premiered at the Luyanzi Institute of Technology in Wakiso, marking a vibrant addition to cultural and educational cooperation between China and Uganda.

The event saw Zhejiang University’s director, Zhang Yong, formalize a broadcast partnership with the Uganda Broadcasting Corporation (UBC) and StarTimes, paving the way for national exposure of the films. Winston Agaba, UBC’s managing director, praised the initiative as “a true testament to the power of shared vision and mutual growth,” underscoring its potential to enhance cultural exchange and technological cooperation.

Zhu Hui, vice chair of Zhejiang University Council, described the documentaries as “snapshots of the era in which the peoples of China and other countries are bound together, sharing weal and woe,” reflecting the aspirations of youth on both continents.

Fan Xuecheng, a diplomat from the Chinese Embassy in Uganda, emphasized the films’ role in deepening people-to-people ties and advancing collaboration in green industries, e‑commerce, and science and technology.

Featuring youth-led narratives of cultural exchange, shared dreams, and global connectivity, these documentaries spotlight the cultural dimension of China–Africa relations. They resonate particularly with the younger generation, a demographic that increasingly serves as a bridge in Africa’s evolving partnership with China.
