Egypt and China have announced a partnership to expand the China‑Egypt TEDA Suez Economic and Trade Cooperation Zone, with Chinese developer TEDA committing $100 million to add 2.86 km² of industrial infrastructure in the Suez Canal Economic Zone. The signing ceremony, attended by Egyptian Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly, the Cabinet, SCZone officials, and TEDA representatives, underscores a shared vision of sustainable industrial growth in North Africa.
The expansion builds upon TEDA’s ongoing development in Ain Sokhna, where the initial 7.34 km² industrial park is nearing completion. With the new extension, the total zone will exceed 10 km², making it one of the region’s most significant manufacturing hubs. The $100 million investment will focus on essential infrastructure, roads, utilities, and common facilities intended to draw a wider range of industries and support Egypt’s goal of integrated, sustainable industrial communities.
Prime Minister Madbouly highlighted the importance of the expansion in accelerating industrial development. He described the zone’s potential to become a major manufacturing and logistics hub in the region, reiterating Egypt’s commitment to job creation and welcoming foreign and domestic investors. SCZone chairman Waleid Gamal Eldien added that further development will provide a platform for targeted industries and encourage more Chinese companies to access regional and global markets especially as investments from China in the zone have surpassed $4 billion over the past three years.
Cao Hui, Executive Director of TEDA Egypt, confirmed the Zone’s alignment with the Belt and Road Initiative and signaled a strategic shift toward high-end manufacturing, including new energy, new materials, automotive components, and fine chemicals. TEDA targets completion of the new infrastructure in two to three years, further elevating the zone’s industrial capabilities.
This expansion reinforces Egypt’s strategic role in the China‑Africa industrial corridor, offering investors and policymakers a growing platform for deeper manufacturing cooperation.
