The Mayor of Francistown, Gaone Majere, has publicly commended the Chinese community and Chinese medical team in the city for their significant contributions to its economic and social development. Speaking during Mid-Autumn Festival celebrations, Mayor Majere noted that these contributions are helping to address unemployment and stimulating local growth.

At the event, Majere also called on Chinese manufacturing firms to invest in Francistown to help revive the city’s economy. He emphasized that manufacturing is key to job creation and long-term economic revitalization.

Chinese Ambassador to Botswana Fan Yong added that 2025 marks the 50th anniversary of diplomatic relations between China and Botswana, and stressed the importance of strengthening bilateral cooperation across political, economic, and development sectors. “China will partner with Botswana to reinforce our mutual trust, integrate development strategies, deliver mutual benefits and foster shared learning,” Ambassador Fan said.

The celebration drew around 400 participants from diverse sectors: city council members, representatives from medical institutions including the Chinese medical team at Nyangabwe Hospital, Confucius Institutes from universities, and local Chinese businesses. Cultural performances, Chinese-Botswana songs and dances, food festivals and games marked the occasion, reflecting both solidarity and integration.
