Ghana and China have commemorated 65 years of diplomatic relations with a celebration that not only looked back on decades of fruitful partnership but also revealed a promising economic future. At the launch ceremony of activities marking the 65th anniversary of bilateral ties between the two countries, Chinese Ambassador to Ghana, Tong Defa, announced that trade between the two countries reached an impressive $11.8 billion in 2024, marking a 7.1% increase from the previous year.
Speaking at the ceremony, Ambassador Tong underscored the strength and depth of China-Ghana relations, describing the partnership as “mutually beneficial and ever-growing.” He emphasized that China continues to be Ghana’s largest trading partner and a top source of foreign investment.
“Today, hundreds of Chinese companies are operating across Ghana in key sectors such as infrastructure, energy, mining, aviation, oil refining, and green industries,” he noted. These enterprises are investing capital, creating jobs, transferring skills, and supporting Ghana’s industrial transformation.
The celebration also highlighted growing people-to-people and cultural exchanges. Ambassador Tong commended the work of the Ghana-China Friendship Association (GHACHIFA), particularly its role in deepening Ghana-China friendship ties.
Anani Demuyakor, Chairman of GHACHIFA, expressed the association’s commitment to enhancing friendship and promoting deeper collaboration between the people, institutions and authorities of Ghana and China.
The 65th anniversary marks another milestone and it affirms the strength of a relationship built over generations and signals even greater cooperation ahead. For both Ghana and China, it is a moment to celebrate progress, and more importantly, to look forward with renewed ambition.
