Huawei Expands Digital Learning in Angola with New Smart Classroom

Huawei Angola has launched its second smart classroom in the capital city of Luanda. This move builds on the success of the company’s first smart classroom, inaugurated in 2023, and reflects the deepening collaboration between China and Angola in the fields of technology and education.

The new facility is part of a broader Huawei-backed pilot program designed to promote smart, inclusive education across the country. Equipped with advanced tools such as the Huawei IdeaHub, high-speed connectivity, and intelligent learning platforms, the classroom will enable over 1,400 students to access educational content simultaneously. With a total of 250 interconnected classrooms envisioned under the initiative, the program has the potential to transform traditional learning environments into modern, technology-driven spaces.

At the inauguration ceremony, Angolan First Lady Ana Dias Lourenço highlighted the importance of the initiative, stating that the launch of this digital learning space is more than just the opening of a classroom, it is a gateway to new possibilities. “We are inaugurating possibilities, inaugurating a path that reinforces my conviction that education is the strongest force for integrated and sustainable development,” she said.

Angola’s Minister of Education, Luísa Alves Grilo, emphasized that the smart classrooms will significantly improve access to academic materials and global knowledge resources. Students will now be able to engage with national and international digital libraries and participate in real-time academic collaborations with peers in countries such as Brazil, South Africa, and São Tomé and Príncipe. The platform also includes content in both Portuguese and English, catering to a broader demographic of learners.

Hou Qiang, CEO of Huawei Angola, reaffirmed the company’s long-term commitment to the country’s educational advancement. He described the initiative as part of Huawei’s broader vision to bridge the digital divide, foster innovation, and contribute to sustainable development through strategic partnerships in Africa.

The launch of this second smart classroom, signifies a milestone in Huawei’s digital transformation agenda in Africa and also strengthens China’s role as a development partner in Angola. By combining cutting-edge technology with local educational goals, the initiative illustrates how Sino-African cooperation can yield tangible benefits in critical sectors such as education.

As Huawei continues to expand its smart education footprint across Angola, observers anticipate that this model could be replicated in other Lusophone countries in Africa. The long-term success of the program could pave the way for broader adoption of AI-driven, multilingual education platforms throughout the region, advancing the digital literacy and empowerment of Africa’s next generation.
