Kenyan President William Ruto broke ground on the China–Kenya International Commerce Center in Nairobi, a ₦5-billion-shilling (~US$38.7 million) mixed-use project developed by China Plaza Group. The center is expected to strengthen trade ties between Kenya and China and further boost investment flows.
Covering over 68,000 square meters, the Commerce Center will include a world-class exhibition and trade hall, a five-star hotel, and modern facilities aimed at showcasing Chinese goods as well as locally manufactured Kenyan products destined for regional and global markets.

President Ruto said the project reflects strong confidence in Kenya’s economic trajectory and its status as a stable, predictable investment destination. He emphasized that the Commerce Center aligns with Kenya Vision 2030 and the Bottom-Up Economic Transformation Agenda, transforming underutilized government assets into robust engines of growth.
Importantly, the project is expected to create 3,000 jobs for Kenyans, offering opportunities in trade, hospitality, logistics, and service sectors. Ruto noted that by showcasing both Chinese and Kenyan manufacturing, the Centre will help local producers access new markets and benefit from increased visibility.
