Malawi Commends Chinese Firm for Transformative Road Project in Lilongwe

In acknowledgment of international collaboration in infrastructure development, Malawian President Lazarus Chakwera has lauded the China Civil Engineering Construction Corporation (CCECC) for its exemplary work on the Kenyatta Road project in the nation’s capital.

During the National Construction Day celebrations in Lilongwe, President Chakwera presented CCECC with a trophy, recognizing the company’s outstanding contribution to the country’s infrastructural advancement. The 4.2-kilometer six-lane Kenyatta Road, connecting Lilongwe’s Old Town to the City Center, has dramatically reduced peak-hour travel time from approximately one hour to just ten minutes, enhancing urban mobility and economic activity.

In addition to the Kenyatta Road, CCECC is actively engaged in upgrading the Kaphatenga-Dwangwa (M005) road to a bituminous standard with an asphaltic concrete surface. This road, part of the vital lakeshore corridor between Lake Malawi and the western plateau, is expected to bolster regional connectivity and trade.

The National Construction Day event also celebrated the contributions of local veteran architects, underscoring the collaborative efforts between domestic professionals and international partners in shaping Malawi’s infrastructural landscape.

This recognition of CCECC’s work reflects the strengthening ties between Malawi and China, showcasing the tangible benefits of Sino-African cooperation in infrastructure development.
