Chinese Premier Li Qiang arrived in Cairo for high-level talks with Egyptian President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi, reaffirming the strength of Egypt–China relations and setting the stage for broader cooperation ahead of the 70th anniversary of diplomatic ties in 2026.
In a series of productive meetings that included Egyptian Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly and senior officials from both countries, both sides committed to advancing their comprehensive strategic partnership, with a strong emphasis on deepening economic cooperation under the Belt and Road Initiative (BRI).
President Sisi described China as a “key partner in Egypt’s economic future,” expressing a keen interest in attracting more Chinese investment particularly in renewable energy, electric vehicle production, tourism, and the digital economy. He also called for enhanced coordination on debt-swap mechanisms and timely implementation of ongoing bilateral agreements.
Premier Li Qiang echoed the sentiment, stating that China is ready to expand collaboration with Egypt in priority sectors such as manufacturing, new energy, science and technology, and cultural exchange. He reaffirmed China’s support for Egypt’s national development agenda and emphasized Cairo’s growing importance in China’s strategic outlook on the African continent.
The visit also spotlighted the China-Egypt TEDA Suez Economic and Trade Cooperation Zone, a key BRI project that has become a symbol of practical cooperation between the two nations. Chinese enterprises in the zone have played a significant role in creating jobs and boosting Egypt’s industrial output.
