South Africa–China Center Launched at G20 YEA Summit to Fuel Youth-Led Trade & Innovation

The South Africa–China Center was officially inaugurated during the G20 Young Entrepreneurs’ Alliance (YEA) Global Summit in Johannesburg, marking a new institutional chapter in China–South Africa cooperation.

The launch was jointly supported by Jia Wei, Chairperson of the G20 YEA China Council, and Thandi Moraka, South Africa’s Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs. The Center was established under a strategic partnership between the G20 YEA China Council and Young Entrepreneurs South Africa (YESA).

Designed as a hub for youth-driven trade, green development, and technological innovation, the Center aims to support enterprises from both nations with services including project matchmaking, market access support, and financial empowerment. During the launch, the first cooperation project was unveiled: a 150 MW / 600 MWh standalone energy storage project between Energy China-CATL Technology and Borena Energy.

Organizers describe the Center as both a “new bridge” and “new engine” for deepening China–South Africa ties, particularly in industrial cooperation and supply chain integration.

This initiative aligns with South Africa’s G20 presidency and signals how youth entrepreneurship and innovation are becoming central to the future of China–Africa partnerships.
