Uganda Praises China’s Role in Advancing Horn of Africa Peace and Stability

Uganda has expressed strong appreciation for China’s active role in supporting peace and stability across the Horn of Africa during the Third Conference on Peace and Development for the Horn of Africa, held in Kampala.

State Minister for Foreign Affairs John Mulimba delivered remarks commending China’s initiatives through the launch of the Global Security Initiative and Global Civilization Initiative, frameworks he said align closely with the African Union’s Agenda 2063, particularly its aspiration for a secure and unified continent.

Mulimba emphasized China’s investment in regional dialogue and inclusive security strategies, highlighting the importance of sovereign equality, multilateral cooperation, and shared responsibility in addressing threats such as cross-border instability, climate shocks, and economic fragility. He said these joint efforts reflect Uganda’s broader diplomatic commitment to collective growth and peace in East Africa.

Representing Beijing, Xue Bing, China’s Special Envoy for Horn of Africa Affairs, reaffirmed China’s readiness to support conflict mediation, counter-terrorism collaboration, landmine clearance initiatives, and military training programs across the region, all rooted in mutual respect and a shared future vision.

The Kampala Forum brought together delegates from across Djibouti, Eritrea, Ethiopia, Kenya, Somalia, South Sudan, Sudan, and Uganda alongside representatives from the African Union and United Nations.
