On the sidelines of the SCO Summit in Tianjin, President Xi Jinping met with Egyptian Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly, signifying a renewed momentum in Sino-Egyptian relations.

President Xi emphasized that ties between China and Egypt are “at their best in history” and urged both sides to leverage the upcoming 70th anniversary of diplomatic relations next year as a springboard to build a China-Egypt community with a shared future in the new era.

Xi called for an expansion of collaboratively beneficial initiatives ranging from economy and trade, joint manufacturing, to new energy, urging China and Egypt to deepen their cooperation as “good brothers” supporting each other.

Both leaders underscored their roles as leaders of the Global South. Xi urged joint efforts to resist unilateralism and preserve a rules-based international order. Prime Minister Madbouly affirmed Egypt’s commitment to strengthened coordination with China on global and regional affairs to safeguard the interests of developing countries. Madbouly praised China as a “true partner and friend,” expressing Egypt’s readiness to use the 70th anniversary milestone as an opportunity for higher-level exchanges, intensified trade and investment, and deeper collaboration in sectors like new energy and electric vehicles.
