The Zambian government is exploring a new partnership with China to strengthen its tourism sector through skills development and vocational training. Tourism Minister Rodney Sikumba made the announcement during a visit to Shaanxi Tourism Cuisine Professional College in Xi’an, China.
Minister Sikumba led discussions with the college’s leadership to evaluate its facilities and identify areas of cooperation. Priority areas include hospitality, culinary arts, and other tourism service niches such as airline services, mixology, hotel management, food laboratory testing, and broader creative industries.
Zambia seeks partnerships that deliver practical curricula, faculty exchanges, shared certifications, technology transfer, and internship opportunities to align skill training more closely with industry needs.
Shaanxi Tourism Cuisine Professional College, established in 1994, is one of China’s leading institutions in vocational training for tourism and culinary arts. It provides a foundation for this cooperation as Zambia aims to modernize its tourism education and expand service quality across the sector.
