The South Africa–China Trade and Investment Promotion Conference and the 9th China–South Africa Trade Fair officially opened today in Johannesburg, drawing thousands of participants eager to expand commerce and investment between the two nations.
In his opening remarks, Zuko Godlimpi, Deputy Minister of Trade, Industry & Competition, lauded the steady growth in bilateral trade and reaffirmed South Africa’s commitment to creating a supportive business climate for Chinese and domestic investors alike. He framed the partnership as a model of South-South cooperation rooted in mutual strategic interests.
Ambassador Wu Peng of China emphasized that the fair is more than an economic forum, it is a vehicle for translating elevated diplomatic relations into practical action, technology transfer, and skills development to support South Africa’s broader development goals.
Over 500 Chinese firms are on display at the fair, showcasing everything from food products, appliances, textiles, agricultural goods, to household items; a broad sweep of sectors that reflect the diversity and depth of China–South Africa trade.
Running through Thursday, the three-day event is expected to advance business matchmaking, joint ventures, and strategic investment across sectors critical to both economies.
