Ghana Strengthens Security Ties with China Through Enhanced Law Enforcement Cooperation

Ghana’s Interior Minister, Muntaka Mohammed-Mubarak, has led a high-level delegation to China for bilateral talks with the Chinese Ministry of Public Security, in a bid to deepen law enforcement cooperation and address shared security threats.

Key areas of discussion included counter-terrorism, cyber-fraud, transnational crime, extradition protocols, and institutional capacity building. Ghana is seeking to adopt modern technology and joint strategies to confront growing challenges across Sub-Saharan Africa.

China’s Vice Minister of Public Security, Ling Zhifeng, reaffirmed Beijing’s commitment to supporting Ghana’s efforts in tackling illegal mining (galamsey) and enhancing protection of Chinese nationals in the country. He also expressed willingness to collaborate through INTERPOL and bolster training for Ghanaian law enforcement agencies.

Minister Mohammed-Mubarak described the visit as building on Ghana’s long-standing ties with China, and emphasized that deeper cooperation in intelligence sharing, cybercrime prevention, and law enforcement reforms will be critical in safeguarding security and justice for both nations.

This development marks a new chapter in the Ghana-China strategic partnership, expanding beyond trade and infrastructure to include security, technology, and institutional collaboration. The expectation is that this enhanced cooperation will translate into more effective responses to cross-border threats and improved safety for citizens and residents alike.
