In a heartfelt gesture of solidarity and support, the Chinese business community in Zimbabwe recently donated a range of essential goods and a new classroom block to disabled children in Epworth, a community southeast of Harare. Coordinated by the Hunan Business Association in Zimbabwe (HBAZ), the donation forms part of ongoing corporate social responsibility efforts aimed at uplifting vulnerable groups and strengthening long-standing ties between China and Zimbabwe.
The donation event brought together local residents, community leaders, and Chinese business representatives, who collectively underscored the importance of caring for children with disabilities and expanding educational opportunities. In welcoming the donation, members of the Epworth local authority said the support – including daily necessities and the newly built classroom – will significantly improve both the well-being and learning environment for children who previously had limited access to such facilities.
Parents and caregivers expressed deep gratitude, noting that the classroom and supplies will enable families to focus on livelihoods and community engagement while ensuring that their children receive consistent education and care. One parent highlighted that having teachers and a dedicated learning space allows them to pursue income-generating activities knowing their children are in a safe, supportive environment.
The event also featured members of the 22nd Chinese medical team in Zimbabwe, who provided free medical care to disabled children and community members, demonstrating how health, education and community welfare frequently intersect in China-Zimbabwe cooperation initiatives.
