Members of the 27th Chinese medical team in Sierra Leone successfully performed a complex surgery that saved a local patient from amputation, marking another milestone in decades-long health collaboration between the two countries.
The patient, a 42-year-old man, had suffered a severe open fracture accompanied by joint dislocation – an injury so critical that amputation initially appeared inevitable.
The surgery, carried out on March 17, required precision, speed, and coordination under challenging conditions. Lasting approximately 90 minutes, the procedure was completed successfully, preserving the patient’s limb and restoring hope where there had been uncertainty.
Medical experts involved described the operation as both technically demanding and time-sensitive, underscoring the importance of rapid intervention and specialised expertise in such cases.
