Chinese Modernization Offers Blueprint for Global South, Say Experts at the Cairo Dialogue

At the “Hong Ting Forum Cairo Dialogue” held on April 24, 2025, in Cairo, Egypt, experts and officials from China, Egypt, and the Arab League convened to discuss the global significance of China’s modernization efforts. The forum, titled “Chinese Modernization, Valuable Experience to the World,” brought together over 100 participants, including representatives from think tanks, media outlets, and the private sector.

Former Egyptian Prime Minister Essam Sharaf highlighted China’s achievements in modernization, stating that China’s development contributes to global prosperity and fosters a community with a shared future for mankind.

Chinese Ambassador to Egypt, Liao Liqiang, emphasized China’s commitment to defending its legitimate rights and interests while safeguarding the shared interests of the international community, particularly developing nations. He noted that China and Arab countries are expected to make further progress through Belt and Road cooperation and joint modernization efforts.

Ezzat Saad, Director of the Egyptian Council for Foreign Affairs, remarked that Chinese modernization breaks the myth that modernization must follow a Western path. He asserted that China’s model offers an alternative for developing countries and contributes to the modernization of all humanity.

Mohamed Hussein, First Undersecretary of Egypt’s State Information Service, observed that Chinese modernization is increasingly resonating across the Arab world, presenting a practical and culturally compatible path to development that aligns more closely with Arab traditions and values.

The forum was co-hosted by Xinhua News Agency Middle East Regional Bureau, the Chinese Embassy in Egypt, Xinhua Institute, the Department of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation of Xinhua News Agency, and the Research Planning Department of the Institute of Party History and Literature of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China.

This event underscores China’s growing influence and the appeal of its development model among countries in the Global South, offering an alternative pathway to modernization that respects cultural diversity and promotes shared prosperity.
