In a vibrant celebration of linguistic and cultural exchange, the Ghana division final of the 24th “Chinese Bridge” Chinese Proficiency Competition was held in Cape Coast, Ghana. The event, organized by the Confucius Institute at the University of Cape Coast (UCC), brought together students from UCC, the University of Ghana, and the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology.
Participants showcased their Chinese language skills through written tests, speeches, and talent performances, including tongue twisters, voice dubbing, martial arts, singing, and dancing. The competition aimed to promote Chinese language learning and cultural understanding among Ghanaian youth.
Godfred Takyi Boateng, a first-year Chinese language student at UCC, emerged as the overall winner and will represent Ghana in the global finals. Boateng credited his late mother, a former UCC student and multilingual translator, for inspiring his interest in Chinese. “Learning Chinese is not only for competitions like this but also opens a doorway to many possibilities for Ghanaian youth,” he remarked.
Chinese Ambassador to Ghana, Tong Defa, expressed gratitude to Ghanaian authorities for their support and reaffirmed the Chinese embassy’s commitment to promoting Chinese language education in Ghana. He announced continued support for the Confucius Institutes in Ghana and scholarships for outstanding students.
The event highlights the growing cultural ties between Ghana and China and the increasing interest of Ghanaian youth in Chinese language and culture.
