Chinese tech powerhouse Huawei has officially launched the 2025–2026 nationwide Huawei ICT Competition in Uganda, aimed at nurturing local digital skills and accelerating the country’s digital transformation under the theme “Connection, Glory, Future.” Participants from universities, training centers, and tech communities will receive structured training, gain industry exposure, and compete in advancing Uganda’s ICT talent ecosystem.

At the launch event, Uganda’s Minister of Education and Sports, Janet Museveni, praised Huawei and China for their commitment to developing ICT talent.

“Our young people have not only participated in the Huawei programs, in and out of the country, but they have also excelled.” She said.

Meanwhile, Zhang Lizhong, China’s Ambassador to Uganda, commended Huawei’s multi-faceted support including initiatives such as DigiTruck, Seeds for the Future, the ICT Academy, and the ICT Competition itself, each playing a pivotal role in bridging the nation’s digital skills gap.

Huawei’s Eastern Africa Regional CEO, Dong Xuefeng, emphasized the importance of embracing technology to foster an environment where innovation can flourish.
